Wathall’s Easter Appeal Egg-cells Again

Posted: 4th April, 2018

Family-owned G Wathall & Son Ltd, the city’s longest established independent funeral directors, have delivered more than 200 Easter eggs to Sure Start Rosehill for distribution to local families.

Wathall’s, which celebrates its 160th anniversary this year, launched its annual Easter appeal recently and collected chocolate eggs donated by members of the public, local businesses, staff, family and friends at its branches in Macklin Street, Derby; Ashbourne, Borrowash and Alvaston.

The Children’s Centre, run by Derby City Council, works with parents, parents-to-be and carers of children to promote all areas of wellbeing and development of children.

Families benefit from a range of services including childcare, health services and family support as well as information and advice on training or education and stay and play sessions.

The eggs were delivered by Joan Henchliffe from Wathall’s to Marie White, part of the Sure Start Rosehill health visiting team, who said: “We are very grateful for the generosity of everyone who supported this appeal.

“The eggs will be delivered to children at home as well as to families who attend our groups and are amongst the most deprived in the city.”

Helen Wathall, managing director of G.Wathall & Son Ltd, which has won several awards for its contribution to the local community, explained: “As a long-established family business, we are very much part of our local communities and try and support worthwhile causes whenever we can.

“This is the sixth annual Easter Egg appeal that we have organised and choose a different organisation each year to support.

“Previous recipient organisations have included Rainbows children’s hospice, Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre and the Hope Centre. We decided to support the Sure Start centre after hearing about the fantastic work that they do there.”
